Bitcoin price today and news

How much bitcoin costs now and how much it cost at the start of the day – at the top of the page, in dollars. Below is the bitcoin news for the current UTC day: source, time and what the BTC price did 15 minutes, 1 hour and 4 hours after each story.

Bitcoin price right now

Bitcoin now versus bitcoin at the start of the day – the two numbers worth reading together. The top figure is the BTC price at 00:00 UTC, the point the daily result is measured from. Once the bot has a live price, the current dollar price appears next to it, and the gap between them is what bitcoin has done so far today. Prices come from KuCoin, with Gate as a fallback, every 15 minutes.

Bitcoin news today

The latest bitcoin news for today goes from top to bottom, newest first. If twenty outlets reprinted one story, it is one line in the feed, and the caption shows how many sources picked it up. This is bitcoin news today without retellings of retellings: whoever reported first stands in the line.

Why Bitcoin is going up or down

Why bitcoin is up and why it is down is decided in 2026 mainly by three things. The first is the money of exchange-traded funds: on October 30, US funds held $104.3 billion worth of bitcoin, and their daily inflow or outflow moves the price more than most headlines. On October 31, for example, the bot recorded a $643 million outflow from spot funds. The second is the Fed rate: expectations of a tight policy this year coincided with drops (for example, at the end of July – Yahoo Finance). The third is regulation in the US: the CLARITY Act, the market structure law, passed a Senate committee in May 2026, but did not reach a vote of the full Senate (TFTC). The bot ranks news of these three types above the rest.

Bitcoin price today: the source behind the number

The figure at the top of the page is the BTC/USDT price on KuCoin; if KuCoin does not respond, the bot falls back to Gate. Prices are sampled every 15 minutes, so the chart is not a tick-by-tick trading screen. It is deliberately calm: you can see what bitcoin did before a story broke and what it did after.

Days on the site run on UTC. The 00:00 UTC price is where bitcoin starts the day, and the daily change is measured from it. In New York that is the evening before, in London it is around midnight. If you open the page in the afternoon in New York, most of the UTC day is already behind you, and the whole of today's bitcoin news feed is in front of you.

The page shows dollar prices only. We do not convert them at a central bank rate ourselves, because that would be a number no exchange actually quotes.

What moves bitcoin now

Bitcoin is the largest coin: on October 30, 2026, it held 59% of all the crypto market's money. That is why its price is not the story of one project, but the mood of the whole market. When the market is afraid, money moves from other coins into bitcoin, not the other way round.

Exchange-traded funds

Spot bitcoin funds in the US trade on the exchange like stocks. The largest is IBIT from BlackRock: on October 30 it held $65.8 billion worth of bitcoin. Every day the funds publish their inflow and outflow. From November 2025 to January 2026 more than $12 billion left them, and this coincided with the price crash. So the story "so much left the funds" almost always stands next to a notable price reaction in the feed.

Companies with bitcoin on the balance sheet

The company Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) holds 848,517 BTC – that is 4.2% of all coins. Public companies together – about 1.2–1.3 million BTC. Purchases by such companies support the price, but Strategy buys with borrowed money, and the market takes any news about its sales painfully. In October 2026 it bought very little – about 250 BTC a week.

The Fed rate and US laws

Fed rate decisions come out on schedule, and on meeting days bitcoin news today almost always starts with them. The crypto market structure law (CLARITY Act) is waiting for a vote of the full Senate, there is no date. If it happens, it will be one of the main stories of the year.

Where the latest bitcoin news comes from

Bitcoin has no company and no official blog, so there is only one official source – Bitcoin Core software releases on GitHub. The rest are major crypto media (CoinDesk, The Block, Cointelegraph, Bitcoin Magazine, Decrypt and others), Telegram channels like Wu Blockchain, YouTube, X, Google News and Bing News. The bot takes Fed and SEC decisions right from their sites. Each story gets a level: official, media, X or mass feed. Mass feeds – Google News and Bing News – all go into the feed, marked "mass": the level shows right away where an official message is and where a retelling of a retelling is. Such a story goes to the Telegram bot only when three outlets or more have picked it up.

New stories are pulled in every 30 minutes. Posts on X are gathered once a day, and we never republish their text – you get a link to the original.

How to read the BTC price reaction to a story

Each story has four windows: after 15 minutes, 1 hour, 4 hours and 24 hours. Until a window closes, it shows "later". For bitcoin the reaction is just the price change: it is the market itself, there is nothing to take out of it. For other coins bitcoin is taken out of the move, so their numbers are called "own move".

The bot marks a sharp move when the price moved more than usual in an hour: the threshold is the larger of 1.5% and 2.5 usual hourly swings over the last 7 days. If BTC got cheaper an hour after a story, it is a reason to read the story more carefully, not proof that it fell because of it. How every number is counted is in the methodology.

Bitcoin today and yesterday

This page lives only for the current day. In the morning, when the UTC day closes, the bot collects the result: open and close price, the top stories, sharp moves and a short conclusion. It comes out on the What happened to Bitcoin in 24 hours page. The coin guide, its history and statistics for all days are on the bitcoin page.

I myself once got scared to buy four bitcoins at 30,000 rubles each – I decided it was another scam. This feed will not tell you whether to buy or not. It simply does not let you miss what is happening.
