What Is XRP: Statistics and Price Reaction
XRP is the crypto of the XRP Ledger network, made for fast and cheap transfers: a transfer is confirmed in a few seconds, the fee is a fraction of a cent. All 100 billion coins were created in 2012, and the Ripple company holds most of those not yet released, but XRP and Ripple are not the same thing. The price and events of the current day are on the XRP today page.
This page is an in-depth study of XRP: its history, key events, tokenomics, risks and how the price has reacted to news. No need to spend weeks researching the coin – the useful information is already collected and checked against primary sources.
Give the page 10 minutes to understand how XRP works and how the service works. To keep your finger on the pulse, subscribe to the coin’s folder in the Telegram bot: important news, spikes and drops arrive as soon as the bot catches them. It helps you notice a serious event in time – the decision and the risk stay with you.

news with the price reaction
Ripple puts out a lot of loud news: deals, a bank license, a revenue forecast. But XRP often barely reacts to it – on October 26–29, 2026 this was especially clear. So next to each story stands XRP's own move after 15 minutes, 1 hour, 4 hours and 24 hours: you can see whether the news really coincided with a price reaction.
A reaction of more than 1 percentage point counts as notable. The bot marks a spike or a drop when the own move in an hour went past the threshold – more than 1.5% or more than 2.5 usual swings for the week.
XRP: summary and history
XRP follows bitcoin harder than many coins: if bitcoin falls by 1%, XRP loses about 1.6% on average. That is why the main number in XRP recaps is its own move, what is left after the market is taken out. Every morning yesterday's recap appears here.
How XRP differs from Ripple, how the escrow works and how the SEC case ended – in the guide "What is XRP crypto".

XRP statistics and analysis
In XRP statistics the bot highlights four types of events that most often stand next to notable price moves:
- The first day of the month. An escrow of 1 billion XRP opens. What matters is how much Ripple locks back: less than usual means more coins will go to the market.
- Network updates. After the October 2026 bugs, reports of XRP Ledger failures and fixes became weightier. The next one is a package of fixes on November 4, 2026.
- Funds. Money flows into exchange-traded funds on XRP in the US.
- US regulators. The crypto market structure law and SEC decisions.
Where the bot gets XRP and Ripple data
XRP has two streams of events: the XRP Ledger network and the Ripple company. The bot takes both directly – network software releases, the xrpl.org blog, Ripple's press releases and Insights section, Ripple's YouTube channel – and follows five accounts on X: Ripple, RippleX for developers, the XRPL foundation, CEO Brad Garlinghouse and network co-founder David Schwartz. Plus 25 shared crypto sources.
XRP has its own folder in the Telegram bot @invest_prs_bot. The result of the past day is on the What happened to XRP in 24 hours page.
What is XRP crypto
XRP is the coin of the XRP Ledger network, one of the oldest in crypto: the network has run since 2012. It was made for fast and cheap transfers. A transfer is confirmed in a few seconds, the fee is a fraction of a cent. There is no mining in the network and no staking either: coins are not mined, and no interest is paid for holding them.
All 100 billion XRP were created at once in 2012. No new ones are issued; on the contrary, a small part is burned on fees: in 14 years 14.4 million XRP have burned, which is 0.014%. As of October 29, 2026, about 63.4 billion coins are in circulation.
On October 29, 2026, XRP cost $1.30, the market cap was $82 billion, fifth place in the world. The coin seems "cheap" only by the price per coin: there are simply a lot of coins. By market cap XRP is bigger than Solana.
Ripple XRP: the coin and the company are not the same thing
This is the main thing to understand about this coin. XRP, often called the Ripple coin, is the coin of the open XRP Ledger network. Ripple is a private US company that holds most of the XRP not yet released to the market and builds payment products on this network.
The network was created by Jed McCaleb, Arthur Britto and David Schwartz. In September 2012 the company OpenCoin appeared – the future Ripple, with co-founder Chris Larsen. The creators gave it 80 billion XRP. Today Ripple's CEO is Brad Garlinghouse, and David Schwartz is one of the accounts the bot follows on X.
Why this matters for the news: Ripple's success as a company does not automatically turn into XRP growth. Ripple's shareholders and XRP holders are different people. In 2026 this is especially clear: Ripple, by media estimates, has its best year in history, XRP its worst since 2022. On October 26, 2026, Ripple got approval for a national trust bank in the US, on October 27–29 at the Swell conference it announced a revenue forecast of $900 million for the year – and XRP barely reacted to this news.
Escrow: Ripple's monthly sales
An escrow is a wallet locked on a schedule. In December 2017 Ripple locked 55 billion XRP in escrow with a rule: on the first day of every month up to 1 billion opens, and what the company did not use is locked back. At the end of October 2026 the escrow holds about 31.5 billion XRP.
Usually Ripple locks back 600–800 million of the billion that opened. In October 2026, 1 billion opened and 700 million was locked back. On average 200–300 million XRP a month can go to the market – about $260–390 million at the end-of-October price. This is a constant supply from one large seller. The plus is that the schedule is transparent: everything is visible on the blockchain, no surprises.
So the first day of the month is one of the dates worth checking the XRP recap: how much opened and how much went back.
The SEC case: the main story of 2020–2025
On December 22, 2020, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) sued Ripple: according to the regulator, the company sold XRP as unregistered securities. For several years this was the coin's main news.
- July 13, 2023 – Judge Torres ruled: XRP sales on exchanges are not securities, while direct sales to institutional buyers are securities.
- October 2023 – the SEC dropped the charges against Garlinghouse and Larsen.
- August 2025 – the SEC and Ripple withdrew their appeals. The fine is $125,035,150, and the ban on the company's direct institutional XRP sales remained.
The result: XRP officially trades on exchanges in the US, and after that exchange-traded funds on XRP became possible. But the court's ban on part of Ripple's sales is still in force.
XRP and Ripple price history
Price by year according to Binance (the XRP to dollar pair has traded there since May 2018):
| Year | High | Low | Close | For the year |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2018 (from May) | $1.50 | $0.25 | $0.35 | −30% |
| 2019 | $0.51 | $0.18 | $0.19 | −45% |
| 2020 | $0.78 | $0.10 | $0.22 | +14% |
| 2021 | $1.97 | $0.21 | $0.83 | +278% |
| 2022 | $0.93 | $0.29 | $0.34 | −59% |
| 2023 | $0.94 | $0.30 | $0.62 | +82% |
| 2024 | $2.91 | $0.38 | $2.08 | +239% |
| 2025 | $3.66 | $1.25 | $1.84 | −12% |
| 2026 (as of Oct 29) | $2.42 | $0.99 | $1.30 | −30% |
The all-time high is $3.65, on July 17, 2025 (CoinGecko). On October 29, 2026, the price is 64.5% lower, minus 50.8% over the year. The 2026 low was $0.99 on August 14.
A personal story. I held a little XRP and took it out at about zero: I decided it was nonsense. And in November 2024 XRP grew from $0.49 to $1.96 – four times in a month, and by January 2025 it reached $3.40. I learned about it from the news, already after I was out. The amount was small, the lesson was not: I did not follow the coin and left blind.
Ripple as a company: what it builds
In recent years Ripple has turned from a startup into a large financial company. In 2025 it bought three companies: the broker Hidden Road for $1.25 billion, the treasury service GTreasury for $1 billion and the payments company Rail for $200 million. In October 2026 the OCC regulator gave final approval for its national trust bank in the US.
For XRP news this means: Ripple gets written about a lot and often – deals, licenses, partnerships, revenue. Such headlines sound like good news for the coin. But the bot's and the market's data show that XRP often does not react to them. That is why the service measures the reaction: for every such story you can see whether the price really moved.
Sharp days of XRP
XRP is a coin with big swings. A few examples from Binance data:
- October 10, 2025 – a crash of the whole market, XRP minus 15.4% in a day.
- February 5–6, 2026 – minus 19.7% in a day, the next day plus 21.0%. It was a crash and rebound of the whole market.
- August 19–21, 2026 – three days of growth in a row: +10.4%, +14.7%, +14.7%. Solana was also growing on those days.
- October 17, 2026 – a sharp drop to $1.26. The media wrote about a 72% fall in payment volume on the network.
On most such days the whole market moved. That is exactly why the service takes bitcoin out: to tell a market day from a day when something happened to XRP itself.
How the XRP Ledger network works
There are no miners in the network. Validators – nodes that check transfers – agree on each new record using lists of trusted nodes. Network updates turn on if 80% of the validators on the list support them for two weeks. At the end of October 2026, 97 updates are on.
The base fee is 0.00001 XRP, and it is burned. To open an account, you have to keep a reserve on it: 1 XRP plus 0.2 XRP for each extra object.
October 2026 was a restless month for the network:
- On October 9 a critical bug that had lived in the code since 2015 was disclosed and urgently fixed in version 3.4.1. In theory it allowed creating XRP above the 100 billion limit. According to the media, no traces of its use were found.
- At the same time a bug was fixed that could lead to validators splitting and the network stopping.
- On October 22 the next package of fixes was moved to November 4: validator support dropped below the threshold for 2 hours.
How much the network is really used
Money in the network's apps (TVL) – $334 million, stablecoins on the network – $1.06 billion, 14th place among networks (DefiLlama, 29.10.2026). For a coin with an $82 billion market cap this is not much: Solana's TVL is $5.7 billion, stablecoins – $15.3 billion.
Ripple has its own stablecoin RLUSD – worth $2.6 billion. Of that, only $0.98 billion lives on the XRP Ledger, and $1.62 billion on Ethereum.
Who holds XRP, and the funds
Exchange-traded funds on XRP in the US held $1.47 billion in assets as of October 26, 2026, while $1.8 billion was invested in them in total: fund buyers are at a loss on average. In October the inflow almost stopped, with some days of outflow. The largest holder of coins not yet released is Ripple with the escrow.
What matches XRP moves
- Bitcoin. Correlation 0.87–0.89, beta 1.26–1.62. This is the main factor: look at bitcoin first, then at XRP news.
- Regulation in the US. The growth on August 19–21, 2026 (+10.4%, +14.7%, +14.7% three days in a row) was linked by the media to the US Treasury bond buyback and progress on the market structure law. The whole market grew at that time.
- Escrow. How much Ripple locks back on the first day of each month.
- Funds. Money flows into XRP ETFs.
- Network updates. After the October bugs, news about failures became more important than usual.
Timing alone is not proof. Our wording is always the same – "matched".

XRP risks
- Escrow pressure: 200–300 million XRP a month from one seller.
- Dependence on bitcoin: XRP falls together with it, and harder.
- Weak network use with a large market cap.
- Security: a critical bug lived in the code for 10 years, and the October 2026 updates had support failures.
- The gap between Ripple and XRP: the growth of the company's business does not have to lift the coin's price.
- Centralization: a large share of coins is with Ripple, and updates depend on lists of trusted validators.
